“Paying It Forward” is Really Paying it Back…

There’s a great website that offers free Bible-study software for your computer for free. The man who wrote the software, Rick Meyers, says this on the opening screen:

Wisdom for Dealing with Uncertainties…

In the movie Parenthood, Steve Martin’s character is expressing his fear of the unknown for his children. His wife tells him that life is messy. He says, “I hate messy. It’s so… messy.”

It’s then when his mother, who seems to be struggling with a bit of dementia says something very profound.

You know, when I was nineteen, Grandpa took me on a roller-coaster – Up, Down, Up, Down. Oh, what a ride!

I always wanted to go again. You know it was just interesting that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so… so excited, and so thrilled… all together.

Some didn’t like it. They went on the Merry-Go-Round. That just goes around…. Nothing. I like the rollercoaster; you get more out of it.

I love that quote.

Hmm… What is that one thing you would do if you knew you would never be found out? The cynic in me would guess that for many, the true difficulty in that question is narrowing it down to one.
