Walking the Tightrope Between Two Worlds…

Tightrope_walkingThe Bible teaches that as citizens of heaven, we’re to behave as citizens of heaven. Separate from sin. Separate from a self-absorbed existence. Separate from practical atheism – by that I mean the common outlook that if there is a God, he doesn’t matter much.

We’re to be dedicated to something more than these things. Dedicated to God. Dedicated to helping people find him. Dedicated to living for him. Seeking and saving that which is lost. We are part of the Kingdom of heaven.

However, while we’re not “of the world,” Christians are “in the world.”

This podcast speaks of our need to walk the tightrope between the world in which we reside and the Kingdom of our citizenship.

Rod Woodson Hall of Fame Speech – Excerpts

I really appreciated Rod Woodson’s NFL Hall of Fame induction speech. So much so that I typed some of his words here.

Rod_Woodson_20010607-4You may remember Rod when he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Oakland Raiders. He played with such excellence that the Steelers named him to their 75th Anniversary Team.

“‘… I want to thank my Lord Jesus Christ. He’s my Savior. He died for my sins and my salvation and no really without him I would not be here. He believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself…. I truly thank him for guiding me for so long and keeping me safe, even when I didn’t realize it was him. I really thank him and really, without his mercy, without his love, without his compassion for me as a person, as a human being, as one of his children, I wouldn’t be here. So I say thank you Jesus….

“God has given us a gift — to choose. It’s a power that we normally don’t talk about. I leave you today with these thoughts. Choose. Choose to love rather than hate. Compassionate Christianity…

A week or two ago, when Dave prayed at the close of the worship service at our church, he said something like, “God – thank you for the love that is in this room.” It made my day. That’s what should be here – always. Love is something that Christ expects to go beyond this room, beyond our church fellowship, and even beyond our Christian circles. As followers of Jesus, we’re to imitate him. That means loving as he loves.

How well does the Christian church do that?
