During Hurricane Katrina, I spent lots of time watching TV 4 – WWL TV, New Orleans as they streamed their firsthand news over the internet.
I appreciate that kind of coverage, because it’s local and personal. The news anchors often drop all their professional masks and get real.
At one point, they showed a restaurant that had just reopened. The film clip showed a waitress writing a Bible verse on the whiteboard that usually lists “today’s special.” The verse said: The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? – Psalms 27:1 (NIV) When they cut back to the newsroom, one of the anchors put down her notes and said something like this: I need that. I need the Bible. I have been in the Word more in the past three days than I’ve been in a long time. It’s given me so much. Especially the Psalms.
She needed the Word of God. We all do.
