Who Was M. Scott Peck — a brief bio

M. Scott Peck

a brief bio

M. Scott Peck is an experienced psychiatrist turned author. His writings have grown out of the interaction he had with his patients through the years of his practice. While his books and tapes frequently offer religious, even Christian truth, they are best received by a secular readership.

Having read his most popular work, The Road Less Traveled, I was impressed with Peck’s ability to communicate the value of responsible living. However, the book and his thinking is not evangelical. Many would not even call it Christian. For example, in one passage of the text, he remarks that he would sleep with a patient if he felt it would help her.

Peck is controversial for other reasons, advocating euthanasia in some cases. He relates a story of his service in the army when he determined that his superiors were wrong in keeping a brain tumor patient alive with drugs. Peck clamped the IV tube and the soldier died in short order. Peck defends his decision without apology.
