Who Said This?

Without googling, do you know who said this and the context?

Muntzer “swallowed the Holy Spirit, feathers and all.”

  1. Uh…. No.

Luther’s emphasis was, of course, that our only authority is the Bible. It seems that Muntzer and others believed that the voice of the Holy Spirit, speaking through him, was equally authoritative.

As an exponent of the supremacy of the inner light of the Holy Spirit as against the authority of Scripture, Müntzer was said by Luther to have swallowed the Holy Spirit, “feathers and all.” http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/397713/Thomas-Muntzer/5081/Muntzers-reform

You gotta love Luther’s sharp tongue — unless you’re on the receiving end of its barbs! 🙂

  2. My friend Matt was telling me some great stories about Martin. The pope knew about his love for beer, and had some monks ply him with it while others listened secretly to try and get some dirt on him. And Martin said he was thankful for his wife because she made great beer.
