I Have too Much…

I am watching a video about the Baby Boomer Generation, on which I am the tail, and it’s reminding me of how much I have. Wow — I have a lot.

I know that in Luke 12:48, Jesus is talking about knowledge and not possessions. But in light of his teaching in his Parable of the Talents, I think you can apply Luke 12:48b to much more than the pure quantity of theological education you possess.

When I apply it, it sobers me.

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. ~Jesus in Luke 12:48

Recently I’ve been contributing more to the benevolent fund. I debated it for a while because I don’t get paid a whole lot, but then I felt it was something I had to do, that and more tithe.

You know, it hasn’t really hurt at all. It’s difficult, but that’s different.

My mom tells the story of my grandparents, her parents, giving when they had nothing at all, and when gramy died we realized it was repaid to her…she was able to be hospitalized in a nursing home without too much financial hurt, there was an inheritance for her four surviving children…God blessed her for giving when she “couldn’t”.

I grew up watching that lesson in action…I didn’t learn it right away, I’m still learning it, but I remember it.
