How to Uninstall Software in Windows ME

These instructions are Windows ME specific but should be reasonably the same on all Windows 9x machines.

It may be helpful to print this page and follow the instructions from the hardcopy.

You cannot just delete an icon or a folder from your computer to uninstall software. When you do, you may have problems with the software looking for the information you deleted. It’s important to uninstall software following this procedure.

  • Close all programs that are running. Make sure your taskbar is empty.
  • Double-click the “My Computer” Icon on your desktop.
  • Double-click the “Control Panel” Icon in My Computer.
  • Double-click “Add/Remove Programs”.
  • Select the Install/Uninstall tab.
  • Scroll down the list of programs and highlight the one you want to remove.
  • Click the Add/Remove button.
  • Click through rest of the procedure, answering the questions concerning uninstalling the product you have chosen.
  • Restart your computer when the uninstall is finished.
